Gestural Drawing

Gestural Drawing:

Gestural Drawing is a way to boost confidence and train the perceptive skills especially on direction, proportion, weight, or structure of the subject-matter. It also helps to instill confidence in handling the drawing tool/s. It demands total concentration and full confidence to execute the exercise.

You may choose any perceivable/observable subject for the exercise (or simply place a mirror in front of you that you can see yourself clearly).

Choose a comfortable tool to work with (e.g pen, pencil, brush) and hold it onto the drawing surface.

The exercise should be done very swiftly, preferably under 30/20 seconds per session/drawing.

Do not ever look down at what you ‘re drawing until time’s up; just look at the subject (or the mirror, if you’re drawing yourself!)

Let your tool move freely to the motion of your hand/fingers to the coordination of the eyes on the subject. Unconsciously you will also be letting your feelings go with your drawing’s motion.

You’re supposed to continue drawing until time’s up!/do not lift off the tool you're using until time's up!

Do not try to mend/repair the finished drawings. It will miss the objective/purpose...
